Eleven year old Elijah Freeman was the first free-born child in Buxton, Canada. Buxton was a refugee camp for slaves fleeing America during the 1800’s. Eventhough Elijah was never part of the slavery movement; he did see what slavery was all about. After a fugitive stole some money from his friend Mr. Leroy, Elijah traveled to America. In Michigan while hiding out in a barn, Elijah see first hand the mistreatment of the slaves. Although, wanting to help free the slaves, he was only able to save a baby girl.
