Top Ten List

Ishmael Beah retells his story as a young boy living a normal childhood until one day his innocence is taken away. In his home Sierra Leone in Africa during the 1990’s Ishmael was captured by the rebels. Ishmael and some of his friends were able to escape but are later captured. Beah is later recruited by the national army where he is taught to handle a AK-47 and is also taught to kill anyone who goes against the rebels. To be able to numb his feelings, Beah turns to drugs. He is eventually captured by the United Nations where they have him enter a rehabilitation center. Ishmael Beah now is a Children’s-Rights Advocate.
