The White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean
2008 Printz Book Award Winner
Symone is a troubled fourteen year old girl who has a life long fascination with Antarctica. So when her “uncle” Victor surprises her on a trip to the South Pole, Sym is delighted. But the plot thickens as Victor has a different reason for this trip. He is dangerously obsessed with seeking Symme’s Hole, an opening that supposedly leads into the center of a hollow earth. At the end, Sym escapes both her evil uncle and the hostile Icy and dangerous terrain.
This is definitely a thriller and suspenseful novel that will keep you from putting the book down! However, this page turner in my opinion is best suited for a more advanced reader because it is intellectually demanding.
